Dress Code
District and school dress code states that, ‘°students shall be required to show proper attention to personal cleanliness, health, neatness, safety and suitability of clothing and appearance for school activities.” Students clothing cannot cause distraction or disturbance or create a health or safety hazard. In no case may attire commonly associated with gang membership, affiliation or activity be worn, extra large or sagging-style clothing · or clothing with foul language or pictures; such attire is not protected by the First Amendment.
EMELITA STUDENTS DRESS CODE:
Parents are responsible for ensuring that their children are dressed properly for school, including wearing appropriate clothing in the event of inclement weather or excessive heat.
Students are required to show proper attention to personal cleanliness, health, neatness, safety and suitability of clothing and appearance for school activities. In every case the dress attire and grooming of the student shall be clean and shall not:
- cause actual distraction from or disturbance in any school activity or interfere with the participation of a student in any school activity;
- create a hazard to the safety of him/herself or others;
- create a health hazard.
Therefore:
- Shoes for physical education must be appropriate for running and kicking. Shoes must have closed toes and worn with socks for health purposes.
- For safety purposes, students are not to wear “chunky heels”, platform shoes or open toe shoes.
- Mini skirts, hip-huggers, “hipsters”, or below the waist jeans are not allowed for students. Short pants for students should be no higher than mid-thigh in length.
- All shoes are to be laced and tied to prevent student injury from tripping while walking and/or running.
- Midriffs must be completely covered with an appropriate blouse, shirt or sweatshirt.
Haltertops, “spaghetti straps”, and low-cut necklines are not permitted.
- Cosmetics, hair spray and fragrances are not allowed.
- Non-prescription glasses are not allowed.
- No body tattoos.
- Vulgar, obscene or profane language and/or illustrations on items of clothing are not allowed.
- Dangling and looped earrings are a serious safety hazard for all students and are not allowed.
- Students will be sent to the office to call home for a change of clothing in the event that the student dress code is violated.
