You and your incoming kindergartner are invited to come to Emelita Street School on Wednesday September 1^st from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. to meet your child’s new teacher and with your permission may begin kindergarten assessments. 

You will have the opportunity to ask questions, meet other parents, and other children who will be in kindergarten with your child.  You can also check out your child’s classroom and kindergarten playground.

We hope that giving the children a chance to meet their teacher and see where they will be spending kindergarten will put them more at ease on the first day of school.

A small snack will be provided for the children.

We hope you are having a great summer! As we approach the new school year we know of a few questions that come up every year. Here are a few of those questions and answers.

When is the first day of school?

September 13, 2010. School begins at 8:10 am

Classroom Assignments

Student classroom assignments for the 2010 – 2011 school year will be given on the first day of school, September 13, 2010. No exceptions. We will not be accepting Parent Requests for room assignments/placements for the 2010 – 2011 school year.

Classroom placements are made based on strict District guidelines.

School Supply Lists

Here is a list of items that your child will use and the classroom needs throughout the year. We often run short of these particular items.  Your education is free and this is not mandatory but if you would like to buy supplies for your child or donate something to the class, here is a good place to start.

Summer Learning

Haitian children are in great need of help because of the earthquake last January. 

Amanda Klessig, one of our 5th grade students) is  collecting gently used backpacks, and new school supplies.   The backpacks will be filled with the school supplies and sent to Haiti.

           So, please bring in new basic school supplies such as book bags, new backpacks, pencils, pens, erasers, markers, glue sticks, crayons, colored pencils (or anything else you might want to get if you were in their spot).  Deflated soccer balls would be great too. There will be bins in the office to place the supplies in.  Then, at the end of the year, please place your empty, GENTLY USED backpacks into the bins.
